KHEDOR

God of Learning and Knowledge

Founder of the Way

Khedor is one of the most baffling of gods when he appears, either appearing as a rather eccentric old man in either heavily rumpled or beautifully pressed robes, or as a youngish man of a monk-like opinion. As Founder of the Way, this is not surprising except when taken in context, and is probably since Khedor has been known to cheerfully bemoan the stereotype of the scholar being a dappy old man covered in dust from books.

Khedor has few followers in his capacity as God of Learning, as many scholars are mages and thus tend to lean towards Arcanus. However, he founded the Corpus Mortimus and thus is the patron of the whole organisation of monks. Khedor is said to appear to those in desperate need of answers and to allow them a limited search in his own, vast library, which even he is said not to know everything that is contained within.

Khedor is a very earnest god, sure in what he knows and very capable of creating to further his objectives. He is slightly eccentric however, and has been known to not completely think things through at times, which can cause problems. His attitude towards mortals is that of a much respected teacher, gently coaxing them along so that they reach conclusions naturally, rather than browbeat them with his own knowledge.  He is the one who is said to have taught mortals to create physical records of anything and everything, eliminating the need for word-of-mouth repeating of tribal stories and legends that characterized early civilisation.

In the conflict between the Elemental Lords and the Younger Gods, Khedor was alone in his vast library seeking knowledge which could help the cause of Light, when he was set upon by agents of an unknown god, and, left unarmed, appeared to have no chance.  Being a god, he realised that there were bound to be times when people needed to fight without weapons, and, as the agents advanced on him, quickly formulated a quick set of physical principles, worked out what the human body was capable of, and despatched his attackers as a sort of trial run.  This impressed him, so he then spent several months basically creating a Code of Combat for the unarmed.  He tried to teach this to some peasants, but found that they did not have the mental toughness or inner faith to do well at it, so then created other techniques too, to help anyone gain better control of their bodies, faster reactions etc, as well as making them more mentally tough and aware so that the skills he had discovered could be used.  This teaching became known as the Way, and is now the principle teaching in the Corpus Mortimus, the order that he founded to preserve knowledge and to pass on the Way of Khedor.
