CHRISTOS

GUARDIAN OF TRAVELLERS

Christos is one of the few gods who has no clear gender, appearing in either male or female form to travellers, especially the lost. He will either appear as a hearty man, lean and weatherbeaten, or as a woman of varying age, although records suggest he prefers the old and withered crone to the gorgeous young female.

Unsurprisingly, Christos does not have a church of his/her own, but does have a large number of shrines spread across trade routes and where travellers tend to travel most frequently. Offerings left there disappear mysteriously as soon as they are out of sight, and there are many theories as to what they are used for - the two most common are lining bandits' pockets, and the god improving the roads. Those that give most often are frequent travellers, traders and those who make a living from haulage or conveyance of passengers.

Christos likes to act as a happy-go-lucky deity, willing to go anywhere to see what is beyond the next hill/field etc. He gives sage advice to the travellers he appears to, and those that ignore his warnings soon rue their mistakes when they find themselves well and truly lost, for no god likes to be ignored in his or her own speciality.
