ARCANUS

Master of Magic

Arcanus, the God of Magic, tends to appear as a rather crotchety old man. His robes, however, are spotless and ornate, with many magical symbols embroidered upon them (several spells were learned by mages by simply observing Arcanus' robe). Arcanus' hat, however, is completely different, being heavily battered (rumours are that he keeps losing it, and has to get mortals to find it.) Tall and imperious looking, he cuts an imposing figure when he deigns to make an appearance to mortals.

After early 'wild' mages caused havoc in isolated incidents across Erythia, Arcanus founded the Arcane Academy, to allow mages to learn the discipline and control that is essential to their craft.  These days, the Academy is where all mages usually learn their trade. All mages technically worship Arcanus due to this, but in practice do not tend to follow through with the usual sort of prayers.

Arcanus is rather arrogant and very sure of himself. He can be impatient and quick to anger, although at times he can be very thoughtful and well prepared. He is very proud, not liking to admit it when he makes a mistake, and thus is not one of the more popular members of the pantheon. He has a very keen intellect, and those that have spoken to him in the past have remarked that they felt dwarfed by it, no matter how their own mental faculties were rated. He is said to understand this, but can go to oversimplify for the benefit of mortals.
