The College of Varied Magics

The College of Varied Magics is quite an interesting one to many people, as it has no single discipline to which it adheres. Instead, it teaches a combination of all of them, and attracts mainly those students who haven't been able to make firm decisions on which other college to attend. Because it teaches a mixture of subjects, it produces some of the most rounded mages there are, but none that can excel in any one field since the specialists are concentrated in other colleges. It is the largest of the Colleges by some way, and has produced some truly excellent mages, including the current College Chancellor Davinius Quirn.

The motif of the College is an yellow eight pointed star, with four small yellow circles placed on each corner, on a midnight blue background. This is to signify the fact that the College teaches the whole spectrum of disciplines, albeit in a more limited fashion.

The College Faculty are, despite the more generalised fashion of teaching, a very well respected group of sorcerers, numbering no less than six who hold the prestigious MCM award (Master of the Convocation of Magic), as well as several who seem likely to gain the MCM sometime in the future. It is well respected for working very hard with often difficult students and largely producing well balanced and professionally minded young mages.

Students are taught by all the lecturers to certain degrees, and a limited form of specialisation is available if they request it. The teaching format is mainly lecture based, with seminars in smaller groups once a month in each subject, and individual tutorials assigned if the lecturer is concerned about the student's progress in a certain part of the course. Each student is assigned a personal tutor, which allows them to confide in a member of the faculty if problems arise. As well as this, each year group has a Head of Year, whose extensive duties include organising activities for the students.
