The College of Alchemy & Artificers

The College of Alchemy & Artificers is dissimilar to the others. This is mainly due to the fact that the majority of those who teach and study there have little aptitude for magic, but rely on the creation of magical potions and items, the latter of which are finished in conjunction with the College of Enchantment to create things such as magical wands, staves, rings etc.

Many of the students denigrate those who study at the College as being magical incompetents, which is true for a substantial number of the students, but there are always a number of those who have qualified for the Bachelor of Magic from other colleges who return to the Academy in order to study at the College of Alchemy and Artificers. Most people believe that the majority of these students simply wish to keep their own costs down by learning the more advanced skills of potion-making (to advance the basic skills taught in all the Colleges), and the fine art of the creation of items that can hold magical power.

The College is one of the smallest of the Colleges, but has a surprisingly large area of laboratories assigned to it - this is partly due to the more practical basis of the course, but also the fact that occasionally laboratories have to be quarantined off due to accidents.

The College Faculty are:

College Chancellor
'Chief' Hozer Grim, BM (Hons) Alchemy & Artificers, MCM

Vice Chancellor
Yun Qin Wo, BM (Hons) Alchemy & Artificers, MCM

Bursar
Teri Bule, BM (Hons) Alchemy & Artificers

College Librarian
H0L3-1CU

Potions Masters
Ghyorj Derolin, BM (Hons) Alchemy & Artificers, MCM
Williput Reerune, BM (Hons) Alchemy & Artificers

Chief Artificers
Mary Troll, BM (Hons) Alchemy & Artificers
Han Dulcarefly, BM (Hons) Alchemy & Artificers, MCM
Pollicitinius Breviticus Inenduritun Thuiprol III, BM (Hons) Alchemy & Artificers

Charms Master
'Charming' Charlie Simonsen, BM (Hons) Enchantment

Runemaster
Junor 'Rockbeard' dun Nestor, BM (Hons) Runemancy, MCM

Some of the Faculty in the College require some closer explanation - in this College, there are traditionally three Potions Masters and three Chief Artificers, of which there are normally two holding the MCM. The College was, unfortunately, unable to replace two departing members of staff properly. In these circumstances, it is often supposed that a member of faculty is granted the MCM, but the Council of the Convocation unanimously agreed that Professor Troll was perhaps unsuited to becoming an MCM (Master of Machines in the College of Alchemy and Artificers).

The College has one particular ceremony that the others do not. Once a year, students are invited to try to adapt and improve the College Librarian, H0L3-1CU, the fifth librarian since the creation of the college. Previous librarians have suffered from various fates, three of the four being forcibly destroyed after being ruled too dangerous, and the fourth escaping deep into the library, where most wizards are sensible not to enter in pursuit.
