The Blind Twins and the Elemental Lords

The Blind Twins were the first of the Founder's offspring, known as Ordo and Kaos.  They worked in harmonious disharmony, with Ordo seeking to structure everything in Erythia and Kaos striving to abolish all structure.  Though each sought the complete opposite to the other, their strength was equal and thus neither could ever gain an ascendancy.  Despite the futility of their efforts, neither gave up on his task, and thus they are known as the Blind Twins, for while their efforts are considerable, neither can ever best the other.

The Elemental Lords of Fire (Pyran), Air (Aeran), Earth (Gean) and Water (Aquan) were each assigned to care for their elements by the Founder.  Each took this remit seriously, to the exclusion of all the others.  This existence continued for some time, but grew steadily more strained, until something triggered conflict.  No-one knows what brought the Elemental Lords into conflict, but they fought ferociously, the waves battering the land, the air stirring up the sea with huge winds, the skies themselves set alight.

It is believed that this conflict gave Kaos an edge over his brother, so much so that disorder reigned, and Ordo nearly perished.  Instead, Ordo launched a desperate effort to restore order, and brought the Gods into being.  The Gods were not as individually powerful as the Elemental Lords, nor as powerful as the Blind Twins, but there were many of them, and their powers were far from inconsiderable.

The strife continued for many years, but eventually the Gods triumphed, banishing the Elemental Lords into separate and individual planes where they could each reign untroubled by the others.  Then, in a move unanticipated by Ordo, the Gods themselves assumed the place of the Elemental Lords, assigning to themselves the guardianship of Erythia, and each taking charge of an aspect of the world, but more in harmony with the others, so that such strife as had undone the Elemental Lords would not also bring about their own demise.
