KIDS AT HEART PYGMY GOAT CLUB

SUMMER MEETING 1999

JUNE 5, 1999

The Summer 1999 meeting was held at 11:00 a.m. in Shreveport, Louisiana, at the home of Red and Polly Mertens. There was an excellent turnout, with over 30 in attendance.

Club president, Sandy Lutz, opened the meeting by welcoming everyone. She reported that the club had 27 memberships, with 1 from Florida, 7 from Louisiana, and 19 from Texas. She encouraged everyone to keep inviting new members. Membership rosters and club by-laws were distributed to everyone, and several applications were furnished to those who had not yet joined the club.

Club secretary, Sandy Naumann, then read the minutes from the organizational meeting which was held in Porter, Texas, in January 1999. After one correction was noted, Bonnie Cornelius moved to accept the minutes, Jocelyn Thevenote seconded, and the motion carried.

Club treasurer, Red Mertens, gave the treasurer's report (copy attached). Jocelyn Thevenote moved to accept the report, Melody Fullerton seconded, and the motion carried.

Sandy Lutz reported that her son was in the process of completiing and filing the documents necessary for the club's incorporation.

Polly Mertens discussed information she received from Sportsman Insurance Company for liability insurance to cover spectators at club shows and functions. An annual policy would cost approximately $300. After some discussion, Virginia Anschutz made a motion that we wait until January to purchase the policy so that it would be in effect from January through December. Bonnie Cornelius seconded and the motion carried.

Polly then reported on the Shreveport show to be held during the Louisiana State Fair on November 6-7, 1999. This will be the first show sponsored by Kids at Heart. Red and Polly have met several times with the fair officials, and several of the officers toured the facilities on Friday afternoon. We will be sharing over 500 pens with the Nigerian Dwarf breeders, but there is a nice, large arena for each show. Polly contacted several motels near the fairgrounds, and the Ramada Inn has agreed to reserve a block of rooms and furnish the judges' rooms free if at least 20 rooms are filled. The Mertens have already sanctioned the show with NPGA and arranged for Michael O'Kelley and Kevin Kress to be the judges. A volunteer list was passed around for the many tasks required to put on a show, and many club members graciously committed to helping. We also discussed making a club banner to use as a backdrop for pictures for the Memo. Polly mentioned that Little Rascals Pygmy Goat Club had generously offered to help with the up-front expenses of the show, but we agreed that we probably would be able to handle the costs with the money already in our treasury.

We discussed meals at future club meetings, and it was decided that we would have "pot luck" lunches from now on.

Members were asked to list NPGA judges they especially like, and those they would prefer not to show under. The show chairmen will use these lists as a starting point when contacting judges for the Spring 2000 show(s).

Polly and Red Mertens furnished each club member with a keychain with the club logo on one side and the members' herdname card on the other.

Andy Spell moved to adjourn the business meeting ,Virginia Anschutz seconded, and the meeting was adjourned for lunch and a demonstration by Bonnie Cornelius on pulling kids during difficult deliveries.
