KIDS AT HEART PYGMY GOAT CLUB

SUMMER MEETING 2004

JUNE 11, 2004

The Summer 2004 meeting was held in Shreveport, Louisiana immediately after the NPGA Convention National Champion Challenge in the vendor area at the Fairgrounds. There were 12 members in attendance.

Club president, Stetts Stettler, opened the meeting.

Secretary, Sandy Naumann, passed out copies of the Winter 2004 meeting notes, and they were accepted as presented.

Club treasurer, Red Mertens, reported that there was a total of $5,927.49 in the account as of 06/07/2004.

The Stettlers handed out documents outlining their proposal for the Schulenburg show on Labor Day weekend.  Since the show last year did not show a profit, they proposed several changes including:

1)     Making it a one-day event with two complete shows on Saturday to save on the barn/facilities fees

2)     Furnish non-cash prizes for rosette winners and no class premiums

3)     Lunch and supper on-site with grilled burgers, etc. and club members donating additional food

There was some opposition to a one-day event, but members voted to approve the proposed format for this one time.

Red and Polly Mertens said that the LA State Fair show for this year will be on October 30-31st.  They indicated that, with the change in fair officials and their discussion about raising fees and cutting costs, this may be the last year for a show there.  If so, there are other possible NW Louisiana sites including a new facility in progress in DeSoto Parish.

Wanda Hook reported that she has located a site in Baytown for the SE Texas Pygmy Parade for 2005 (formerly in New Caney).  She and Sandy checked out the facilities, and they appear to meet and exceed all the requirements for a show.  Barn rental fees are only $200 for the entire weekend, including clean-up.  Flyers with information about the facility were handed out.  Club members approved having the show at that site.

Joy Rogerson told us about a facility in Marlin, Texas, that may be a possibility for a future show.  The barn is very nice, and although the town is very small, there is one motel and a restaurant nearby that would probably cater a meal.  Members agreed to discuss a possible show there at the January 2005 meeting.

Linda Michalak, club historian, passed out a detailed historian’s report.  Club members commended Linda on the beautiful photo collage and club photo albums she displayed in the raffle area at the convention.

Annie Stettler announced that she would be sending out a newsletter shortly after the convention.  There was some discussion about whether it should continue to be emailed or sent by regular mail.  After using the e-mail system for two issues, it appears electronic proofing among the officers is a workable plan, but mailing is the only way to ensure all members get the newsletter.  We’ll continue with the US Postal Service.

Stetts proposed that mail-in ballots be allowed for the officers’ election this year for everyone, and particularly for members who cannot attend the January 2005 meeting.  Club members in attendance approved.  A nomination form for officers will be included in the next newsletter, and ballots will be prepared and mailed before the January meeting.  Red Mertens and Sandy Naumann announced that they would not accept nominations for offices this year to give other members an opportunity to serve as officers.

The Winter 2005 meeting was scheduled for the weekend after the NPGA Directors’ meeting.  Sandy Naumann will arrange for a meeting place.

The meeting was adjourned at around 7:00 pm.
