KIDS AT HEART PYGMY GOAT
CLUB
WINTER MEETING 2002
JANUARY 26, 2002
The
Winter 2002 meeting was held in New Caney, Texas in the upstairs meeting room
at East Montgomery County Fairgrounds. There were 22 members and guests in
attendance.
A
delicious lunch was enjoyed by all, with homemade stew furnished by Sheri
Merritt.
Club
president, Vickie Sowders, opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. She presented a short history of the Kids
at Heart club. She then shared a letter
and pictures from Molly Farrar, the 4-H member the club sponsors from
Shreveport. She also read a letter from
Ashley W, another
4-H
member who is now the proud owner of a pygmy wether.
Secretary,
Sandy Naumann, read the Summer 2001 meeting minutes, which were approved as
read.
Club
treasurer, Red Mertens, gave the treasurer's report, which was accepted as
presented. We made a profit of $685.87
from the 2001 LA State Fair. The
balance in our account was $4,788.60.

2002
NPGA National Convention in Wooster, Ohio
There
were several items discussed under New Business:
1)
Members
were reminded that 2002 dues were payable on January 1st.
2)
Several
items were discussed and approved about the upcoming 2002 Southeast Texas Pygmy
Parade IV show. These included paying
Glen Trout for two helpers for the pen setup, increasing the price of the
catered dinner to $7.00, keeping class premiums the same as the previous year
with double wether premiums, and having a Beautiful Babies Contest with a $5.00
entry fee.
3)
Polly
reported that our insurance policy would be renewed as of 3/02/2002 through
03/01/2003 so it would cover both New Caney shows. The policy now costs $331 per year.
4)
Extensive
discussion took place about the Scrapie program. There is much confusion among everyone, including the state
officials who are supposedly in charge.
5)
It
was agreed that the club would sponsor two more 4-H/FFA members for goat
projects, one in Texas and one in Louisiana.
Summer
2002 meeting date was set for June 2, 2002 at the Mertens home in
Shreveport.
Meeting
was adjourned and members enjoyed games
including “Dress the Goats” and Word Jumble.
