On January 30, 1999, a group of 14 good friends, who also happen to be Pygmy goat breeders in East Texas and Northwestern Louisiana, met in Porter, Texas to organize a new Pygmy goat club.
We all felt strongly that the club's first emphasis should be on fun, fellowship, and harmony among the members as well as other clubs and all Pygmy owners. This theme was included in the by-laws we adopted, as well as the mission of promoting the Pygmy goat breed and sponsoring at least one NPGA-sanctioned show a year. Sharing of our knowledge of Pygmy goats with each other and the public was also stressed.
We chose the name, "Kids at Heart" for our new club because it suggested our emphasis on fun, fellowship, and friendly competition.
In 2003, Kids at Heart sponsored three NPGA sanctioned shows, one in New Caney, TX, one in Schulenburg, TX, and one in Shreveport, LA, with over 200 goats and 30+ exhibitors from Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi. We also served our local communities by sponsoring pygmy goat projects for 4-H children .
In June of 2004, Kids at Heart Club was one of the proud sponsors of the NPGA National Convention to be held in Shreveport, LA. Exhibitors and goats from all over the USA came together to meet and compete in two NPGA-sanctioned shows. Permanent Grand Champion goats from across the country also competed for National Champion Doe, Buck, and Wether.
