The Carnarvon Blues- a protest song

Copyright mainly Amon Thackaberry

Carnarvon is a lazy town, that's how it's always been

Not the centre of the universe, not quite the social scene

Fishing, drinking, swapping tales, they fill in hour on hour

If you're white it's close to paradise if you're black I'm not so sure

One more Emu Bitter for the road

One more glass of wine to ease the load

Just let it flow

Plantations line the riverbanks and palmtrees grace the shore

Mangoes falling from the trees, how could you ask for more

The sun sets on an amber sea that glows with perfect light

But colours can be wasted if you think in black and white

I've been in town for eternity, just over half a year

And every day I'm told new things that I just dont want to hear

Like how the problems of the world would simply go away

If drinking rights were taken back and the dole was cut today
