WERECREATURES CONTINUED
As far as full moons go, it really depends on the werebeast you talk to. Some aren't affected by the cycle of the moon at all. Others have a noticed a very obvious change during certain periods of the cycle, and not necessarily full moons. For example my animal side peaks during New Moon to First Quarter. Then there's a little lull, and when Full Moon comes about, the panther comes out full until the Third Quarter. After this I enter my "downtime" when the animal side is less apparent. But that's just me. Some weres peak at odd times, like in between phases. It may last for a night, a few days, or as long as a week. Now, this does not mean that a werebeast grows grotesquely muscular and hairy and wanders the hillside looking for small pets on which to snack. What it means is that the animal side is more strongly felt than usual. I feel much more "panthery" during a new moon than after Third Quarter.
Aren't werebeasts just people who are insane or who roleplay or are on drugs?
Lycanthropy is a psychological disorder in which the person afflicted has delusions of becoming /turning into an animal. Whoever thought up the structure of this psychosis totally forgot the spiritual part it, though. I don't "think" I am a panther. It always was, and it will always be. I cannot change what I am. I can control and maybe supress it, but I can't change it. It's a part of me. Most werecreatures are quite tame, rational people. This is because the inner animal won't allow for anything else. It's just pure logic. There are some truly insane people who suffer from a psychosis that does need treatment, and it is not a laughing matter. There is a radical difference in knowing that one is a werecreature and pretending/roleplaying that one is.
On that note, I do not roleplay at being a wereleopard, as exciting as it may sound. This is not a game to me. Werecreatures take their gift VERY seriously, and despite all the skeptical approaches and closemined attitudes, we go on. It is a challenge to know about this gift and what it means, and it is even more of a challenge to teach others of our coexistence with the world around us.
As far as the phenomenon being perpetuated by drug use, I'm sure that more than a few people have gotten together and toked up or shot up and have gotten a little out of hand with the animal thing. But a werecreature doesn't need any drugs of any kind to know what s/he is. We just KNOW.
