| Neptune was unknown until 1846, and we still have much to find out about it. Both Uranus and Neptune have deep oceans of water around a rocky core. Above the blue seas of Neptune, there are white clouds of a frozen gas called methane. Astronomers think they have found an incomplete ring around Neptune. Its section are caleed arcs. The orbit of the planet Pluto crosses that of Neptune. At the moment, Neptune is the furthest planet from the Sun. In 1999 Pluto will be again. The winds around Neptune's equator blow at a rate of almost 1500ft (450m) per second. Neptune rotate 16 hours 7 minutes and orbit 164.79 years at speed 5.4km per second. Its gravity is 1.2 times Earth's gravity. |
