What is sand?
When we looked at sand with our hand lens, it looked like little rocks. Sand is known as sediment. Gravel, silt, and clay are sediment. These earth materials are made by the breaking down of rock. These materials are moved by wind, water, or ice. They end up in rivers, or lakes, as sand dunes, or sediment in the sea. In the end this material gets buried deep enough to harden and form sedimentary rock. |
