Some gossip and opinions on Aegean Forums
George sang a duet with Ms.Dynamite at the Brit awards ceremony on Thursday, February 20, sending yet another anti-war message across the world !
George didn't attend the event personally, his part of the song was pre-recorded and seen on a video screen but it didn't make his appearance less important or his message less powerful !
As I understand, the part of the lyrics sang by Ms.Dynamite were re-written by her. George's part were changed by George himself.
George & Ms Dynamite at the Brits, 20.02.2003.
George performed a cover of Don McLean's "The Grave" at the Graham Norton show !
That was of course another anti-war message !
Here are the lyrics and some screenshots of the performance!
THE GRAVE
(written by Don McLean)
Performed live by George Michael

The grave that they darkened
Had flowers gathered from the hillside
In bright summer colours
And the brown earth
Bleached white at the edge
Of his gravestone
He's gone

When the wars of our nation did beckon
A man barely twenty
Did answer the calling
Proud of the trust
That he placed in our nation
He's gone.

But eternity knows him
And it knows what we've done
And the rain fell like birds
On the leaves of the flowers
Leaving brown muddy clay
Where the earth had been dry

And deep in the trench
He waited for hours
As he held to his rifle
And prayed not to die

The silence of night
Was shattered by fire
It's guns and grenades
Blasted sharp through the air
One after another
His comrades were slaughtered
In a morgue of Marines
Alone standing there

He crouched ever lower ever lower
With fear
They can't let me die
They can't let me die here
I'll cover myself with the mud and the earth
I'll cover myself
I know I'm not brave
The earth, the earth, the earth
Is my grave

When the wars of our nation did beckon
A man barely twenty
Did answer the calling
Proud of the trust
That he placed in our nation
He's gone.

(Ms.Dynamite)
Weve been here before
Talk of violence and talk of war
I dont want to see the children die no more
So I gotta make a stand
Can you hear my voice
Taking a life is only gods choice
I dont want blood on my hands
I am a wise man
A wise man wars with words, my daddy says
A wise man lives to fight another day
And he don't wanna
See no more mothers cry
I dont want to see no fathers die
So I gotta have faith
(Georges vocal enters)
I gotta have faith
Because I gotta have faith, faith, faith
I gotta have faith, faith, faith

(George)
Lady, I guess you heard the news today
Theres got to be a better way
You know its given me the blues
Maybe, weve got time to make it plain
People youve gotta get up off your knees
And say you know we really dont want it
I dont want it (I don't want it)
I dont want it
Before this river becomes and ocean
Of tears and fears
They think they know what theyre doing, pursuing
Me ain't gonna take that fall
Well it takes a strong man baby
But Ive got to hope for more
Cause I gotta have faith
I gotta have faith
Because I gotta have faith, faith, faith
I gotta have faith, faith, faith

D to the Y to the Allah we praise
D to the Y to the Jesus will save
D to the Y to the its all the same
D to the Y to the if you want love
D to the Y to the Allah we praise
(gotta get it together)
D to the Y to the Jesus will save
(gotta get it together)
D to the Y to the its all the same
(gotta get it together)
D to the Y to the if you want love
We want love

Before this river becomes and ocean
(All youve got to do is have a little faith)
Of tears and fears
(And all you've got to do is have faith)
They think they know what theyre doing, pursuing
(One love, one love)
Me ain't gonna take that fall
Well it takes a strong man baby
But Ive got to hope for more

Cause I gotta have faith
I gotta have faith
Because I gotta have faith, faith, faith
I gotta have faith, faith, faith
