Forty five minutes paddling from the nearest island from the Deer Island side or the mainland shore will bring you to White Horse Island. It stands alone in the middle of the tide race that empties Passamaquoddy Bay. Treeless and isolated, it has recently become inhabited by Puffins. This summer was the first reported summer they have been seen here for years. Let's hope the locals and tourists give it enough berth to make these rare birds feel comfortable and proliferate here.
I didn't brave the solo paddle trip out to it as I was dressed only in shorts and Tshirt, was alone and still familiarizing myself with the boiling currents of the Fundy Isles area.
