Before setting out on any paddling trip you must check the conditions. As surely as you wouldn't set out with a life jacket, be sure you don't set out without knowledge of the local weather forecast. You should also use this scale to estimate the risks involved in your trip. Consider the worst case scenario as you decide which values to enter here, such as the expected wind speed at mid afternoon.
