Since the beginning of the contest I have lost 55.5 lbs. I have not had my body fat taken in a while. I estimate it to be around 10% At this point, I have lost 50lbs of fat.
A couple of weeks ago, I went to the grocery store and was getting ready to buy more potatoes. The clerk in the vegetable section (who I've seen regularly since I started eating more vegetables) said "Boy you've lost a lot of weight, what are you down to?" I told him 185 lbs. I told him that I had lost 50 lbs. of fat already. He said "You look great. But why are you buying potatoes? I thought people on diets were not allowed potatoes". I explained to him that people on other diets loose muscle and I have not lost much muscle on my diet. I saw about a dozen five pound bags of potatoes on the cart. I wanted to show him that I could hold up quite a few bags of potatoes. I asked him to stack bags of potatoes on my arms. Just about when I was holding ten bags of potatoes from my arms up to my eyes or 50 lbs., it occurred to me that what I was holding in my arms is what I was carrying around in spare fat.
Later last week, I took a trip for a physical. The doctor's assistant at first did not recognize me. Everything checked out. The PA asked me "Konrad, you have lost a lot of weight. How did you do it?" I replied "Diet and exercise." To which he promptly said "The old fashioned way - diet and exercise". We talked a bit. His concluding comments back to me were met with great appreciation "What ever you are doing, keep doing it" It felt good to be appreciated.
A week later, I got the blood test and urinalysis returns. Everything is inline except for my renal electrolytes. He says that the supplements I am taking can cause these to be elevated just a bit. It looks like I've finally brought my body back into health. This was the last goal I wanted to accomplish out of this contest.
However, I was inspired by Sean Greene's column "President's Page", Sports & Fitness Magazine, Page 16 where he states "...In almost every instance, the individual had doubts about entering. Most felt there was absolutely no way that they could ever win or even make any noticeable changes in their physique. ...You soon could be one of them". Rather than turning my packet in, I want to give this contest my every effort possible.
Although I have met and exceeded every one of my original contest goals, I will continue to push hard to do the very best I can. I now see the possibilities of not only meeting my goals, but pushing the envelope just to see what I am capable of. In the words of my Spinning Instructor, Damian "If you never try, how can you see what you are truly capable of?"
