1st Generation s10 blazer autotrans modification
Ok, first some background, Ii bought this truck in jan of 2003 to build into an on/offroad capable rig. Ii have made quite a few step towards my goal, yet there were two things really bugging me about the inside of my truck,  one the console  was in bad shape and second the colum shifter was sloppy.  The final straw came when after a day of offroading I could no longer keep the shifter in the park position due to a worn out colum internals. Since this was not safe and a pain in the can. I started looking at replacing the broken componets in the colum or the colum itself.  Wile looking for ideas I came across some one that had done an interior redo on there truck ,that included a floor shifter from a 2nd gen s10 blazer. I liked the look of it and since my console was poor any way,  I decided to do it.

What you will need is: the console(3 peices, main console, the top cover and the inner part where you can put your junk.), the shifter assembly, the base plate, the cable, cable bracket and the arm that mounts to the transmission. I was able to get all of this from one yard here in town, though it took three blazers to get all the parts that were in good shape.          The total cost was $103.73, not bad since i've seen the consoles and on ebay  for $90 but with out the cable which is $78 at the dealer or $30 at a junkyard.

Installation
First let me state that the truck I saw with this mod was a 93 0r 94 with the pushbutton 4x4. My truck is an 86 with the floor shifted 4x4, and due to this my mod turns out totally different.
First assemble the parts and clean them, making sure there all in good condition. Next remove the old console and the 4x4 shifter console. Because I have the floorby4 i needed to trim the new console to accomidate the shifter, after a lot of looking and planing I determend the best way was to trim the console back to just before the cup holders this would allow me to retain the stock 4x4 shifter and console thingy.  Below are  taken after the trimming.
When trimming there are a couple of things to take in to account, one that you can shift in to 4 low and two, that you will be happy were the shifter knob sits while in drive. Once I trimed the console to fit I screwed a 1x1 in to the middle to stablize the front were I cut it. also I had to remove the mounting tabs in the back under the console box and us another 1by1 there so it would sit where i wanted it too.
Next you will need to mount the base plate. I mounted mine so the the hump on the plate matches with the hump that runs across the floor. To get the shifter at the right hight, I had to use spacers three inches in back and one in front. I would test fit it severl times before I started drilling holes in the floor. IMPORTANT NOTE: I have a three inch body lift on my truck so I had more room to drill without drilling a hole in the transfer case which is right under where I was drilling. Once you have the base plate level and in the spot you want bolt the shifter to the base plate.
Now you will need to remove the stock shifter arm from the colom and the transmission. As a safety note I would say use jack stands and/or chock blocks at the wheels. Below is a pic of the cable braket and shifter arm that need to be installed. One note about the pieces below, for some reason mabye the difference in the 700r4 and the 4L60, but I have a hard time shifting from 1st gear due to the angle of the cable. I plan to fix this by modifing either the bracket or the arm I will update as soon as I do.
When you have these on you can run your cable. Iin the second gen trucks the cable runs under the carpet and then out and under the truck through the drain plug in the floor pan on the drivers side. I figured why mess with a good thing so I did it the same way. Once the cable is hooked up test it in p r n d and 3, you may have to adjust the cable some, you do so by poping the yellow clip out moving the cable then popping it back in. Once this is done wire up the light for the gear selector, mine is wired to the light that illuminates the 4x4 selector panel(brown and black wires). I have not yet made a way for back up lights and neutral safety switch to work those are for the weekend coming up. Also you will need to disable the shift to park switch on the side of the shifter since the first gen is not wired for that. Now you  put in the consoles and bolt every thing back in and test drive it.
Here are a before and after pic. I've had it in the truck a few days and i am very happy with it. I still have a couple of minor things to do but its 90% done.
