Information
for Students
Hello Friends!! I am excited
to be able to spend this year learning with you. This year there will be a lot
going on and you will have a lot to think about. I know you will all be successful. We will
work together to achieve all of our goals. I want to prepare you for what is to
come during the year. At the bottom of the page I have included some fun links
for you to explore.
Here is an overview of what
you can expect.
o
Homework
assignments and short quizzes
Homework will be based on a check system:
√+= the homework was done above
average and complete; a lot of
effort was shown
√ = the
homework was done and is average
√- = the homework was done below
average, or incomplete; little
effort was shown
o
Theme
Projects
There will be one large project connecting most if
not all subject areas with a single theme. We will be working on them over many
weeks. You will receive checklists and rubrics before each unit. Your first
theme project will be on animals.
o
Portfolios
You will keep a portfolio of writing pieces you
select from all content areas. We will be adding and organizing your portfolios
as the year goes on. You will be able to monitor your own progress.
o
Discussions
and Debates
We will be doing group work and class discussions.
Based on a self evaluation, my observations and peer input you will receive
checks for contributions to group and class discussion. At the end of the semester you will receive
points based on the number of checks you have received.
o
Unit
evaluations
We will have 2-3 unit tests a semester in each subject tests may not
always be a paper and pencil test. They may come as a paper, performance task,
or project.
o
Response
Journals
We will be maintaining response journals throughout
the year in math social studies and science. You will also have a writer’s
notebook in ELA.
