My
Philosophy of Assessment
Students
learn in so many different ways. Today’s learners have an immense amount of
diverse needs. With all that is known
about multiple intelligences and accommodations, I realize I need to design an
assessment plan that is diverse and varied.
I believe that there should be a variety of assessments given to
students. We need to integrate formal and informal assessments as well as
formative and summative assessments into the classroom. Projects, homework,
tests, quizzes, observations, portfolios and questionnaires are all ways of
checking student progress.
I
believe that the purpose of assessment is to make educational decisions. We are
checking to see if our lessons are effective and if our students achieved our
goals. We can use our assessments to guide our teaching and alter our lessons
to meet the needs of our students. It is important to understand the need for
formal standardized tests as well as the need for projects and hands on
assessments. Students learn in different ways so we need to test them in
different ways.
It is
important to have an organized assessment plan. I have put a lot of thought
into my assessment plan and will be able to justify all of my grades and
assessments.
