Information for Parents

Hello Parents! I want to welcome you into your child’s learning world. I want to be in contact with each of you on a regular basis. I want you to feel free to contact me. I will make my best effort to keep you informed about your students and their progress. I think it is very important for me to work with you while educating your students. On this page I will answer some regularly asked questions about assessments your child will be taking during the year. I will also provide some links about the state assessments.

What will my child be graded on during the year?

I will be combining tests, projects, observations, journals, writing pieces, and homework to assess your child. There is a broken down outline of the assignments on the information for student’s page. I think it is important for them to know what is expected. Your students are assessed based on the standards of New York State as well as benchmarks that are set up by the school district. Visit the school’s website for a copy of these benchmarks.

I will be sending home an evaluation sheet or rubric (an outline of how I grade papers and projects) with each assignment. These sheets will really show you how your child received the grade that he or she did.

How will you prepare my student for the state tests?

During the school year I will be familiarizing your student with the tests they are going to take. I will also be teaching the content that will be tested in real ways so your students will retain the knowledge and be ready for these tests. We will practice and become familiar with what is going to be on the test, but I will not lose focus of teaching important content as well.
