The hymns on the above shown discs are sung in Comanche. In the late 1800's and early 1900's Comanches were sent to Indian schools to learn English. Speaking Comanche could result in Corporal punishment as the White people strove to drive the language out of existence. The ultimate goal being that everyone would speak English.
In an attempt to save the language, Comanche elders used the very church that condemned the speaking of the language to preserve it by making Christian hymns in the Comanche language.
The hymns sung by Kenneth Geimausaddle are songs are composed by Comanche elders of the past, many of the songs are Christian Hymns translated and sung in churches by the Comanches over the past hundred years. Kenneth learned these songs at several local churches as a young boy; one of these being the Petarsy Church at Richard Spur, Porter Hill, Oklahoma.
Kenneth is now using these very hymns to further perpetuate the Comanche language as the funds from the sales of the hymns is reinvested in producing materials to teach Comanche.
Each CD is accompanied by a translation booklet so that the listener may learn Comanche as they enjoy the beautiful music of the Comanches.
