STEUBENVILLE, OH
Steubenville (2000 pop. 19,015) is the county seat of Jefferson County.  Located in Eastern Central Ohio along the Ohio River, Steubenville is approximately 40 miles west of Pittsburgh, PA and 25 miles north of Wheeling, WV.  The city was laid out in 1797 and is one of Ohio's oldest communities.  The city was incorporated in 1851.  Because of its location on the Ohio River and nearby abundant supplies of coal and clay, Steubenville became a steel-making center, an industry that continues to dominate the Steubenville area to this day.  Steubenville forms a metropolitan area of approximately 132,000 residents with Weirton, a city across the Ohio River in West Virginia.
