Across the bridge, on the northern bank of Cordoba. Here's a view of the old city wall of medieval Cordoba, once the capital of the Umayyad Caliphate in Spain. Muslim forces under Tariq Ibn Ziyad landed at the Rock of Gibraltar (from the Arabic Jabal Tariq, the "mountain of Tariq"--guess who it was named after) in 711, and ended the Visigothic kingdom there under Roderick, the last king.
