UN-NAMED SOURCES & KURT'S LAST DAYS.part 4.
A LESSON IN HOW TO PLANT A STORY. Scenario, In an attempt to get a story accepted, C provides information pertaining to that story through the intermediaries B, D and any others necessary. This information is false, it offers at best, a twisted version of the truth. A picks up on this information and thinks he has a scoop. He writes an article which is then published by a widely read magazine. C now knows that A has taken the bait. C,
1.....contacts A under the premise that A has un-earthed hitherto unknown information.
2..... then informs A that by using his own sources, he has verified that the information A discovered is correct.
3..... subtly flatters A by admiring A's ability to make such discoveries.
4..... by this flattery C is reinforcing A's confidence in his sources.
5..... then asks A to continue his investigation in order to discover more information, and specifically points A towards various leads. A now thinks he is really onto something and is flattered that C is making this request of him. The reality is that C is A's sources, using B, D and any others he requires. All the strings are pulled by C. Eventually A, offers to introduce C to B and D, in an attempt to help C learn more. C does not bother to persue B and D, because he already knows them. A is puzzled by this but doesn't really question it. That is how easily a story can be planted. it is just a matter of having reliable intermediaries, and knowing who to set up. Could this happen in the "Real World?." In Rossi's book, pages 221-222 the following events occur; after an article on Kurt Cobain, co-written by Melissa Rossi appeared in a publication, Rossi recieved a phone call from Courtney. Courtney asked Rossi where she got her information. Courtney then told Rossi that her own sources had confirmed Rossi's information was correct. Courtney then asked Rossi to help by investigating Kurt's whereabouts whilst he was "missing", and she gave Rossi the name of a hotel where she thought Kurt might have stayed. Courtney asked Rossi to investigate this, and to act as her "information conduit" (Coutney/Rossi's choice of wording.) Courtney encouraged Rossi by mentioning what a scoop it would be for Rossi to uncover such information. Rossi then offered to introduce Courtney to one of her sources, but Courtney never bothered to contact him. I find myself wondering why Courtney would need Rossi to do this when Courtney had her own sources who had already confirmed Rossi's findings. Could it be that Courtney wanted Rossi to elaborate on her findings?. Could it be that Courtney's sources were one and the same with Rossi's? I know so!. I am right. I feel sorry for Rossi. I don't think she could have been aware that she was being played to the extent she was. Rossi makes this comment on Courtney, "I can clearly see her manipulativeness, and how easy it seems for her to use people." Upon reading the introduction to Rossi's book, it is possible Rossi was manipulated right from the start, to write the book. Manipulated by Courtney. Rossi was approached by Roz Rezzabek (an old flame of Courtney's), to collaborate in a biography on Courtney. Once the idea had been planted, Rezzabek pulled out after a pay-off from Courtney. Rossi dropped the idea, but a few months later Pocket Books approached her, and she decided to continue. Rossi said she got the initial OK from Courtney, and that although she didn't directly interview Courtney, at least Courtney didn't interfere. Really?.
By December 1994, Tom Grant had begun to release relevant, (and from where Courtney and Rosemary Carroll were standing, it seems un-deniably true,) information to the public. He recieved a letter from Carroll threatening him with a law suit if he did not retract his claims. On December 29th 1994, Grant put his money where his mouth was, he sent Carroll a reply saying that he would make no such retraction. December 29th was a favourable day for Kurt Cobain, it was the day someone finally spoke out in his defence. Rosemary Carroll never did issue a summons. Within two months however, the manipulation of the press by Courtney had been stepped up, with the approach by Rezzabek to Rossi. I would never have questioned Rossi's sources but for the fact that on close inspection they were so at odd's with the accounts of Carlson, Lanegan, Grant, Carroll, et al. If there is any doubt that it was indeed Kurt who was leaving Courtney, and not the other way around, I only have to look at Rossi's conclusions. She thought Courtney was leaving Kurt and that Kurt committed suicide. She formed her conclusions on the foundations of her sources. She just didn't know that her sources were.....Courtney Love. Rossi was Courtney's "information conduit". Therefor, Rossi's perceptions of Courtney's motives/actions are highly questionable. Her objective information is probably reliable, especially if it is supported by independent witnesses. This is not an attack on Rossi. She is not the only journalist to be duped, she was set up and she fell big time. Unfortunately her work is probably used as a point of reference by other journalists/fans researching Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. Hence the reason they all trot out the same "Kurt was suicidal" myth. When we look at Brite's book Courtney Love, The Real Story, it is obvious that Courtney contacted Brite with the intention of getting her to write a biography. On page 15 Brite wrote; "Courtney Love calls me one night. I don't question how she got my un-listed number; people like her have ways." Courtney is adept at managing to ensure publicity bends in her favour, and at the times she needs it most. Sloppy journalism is unacceptable but rife. Why did Courtney need Brite to write this book?. Well, by Nov 1996 Wallace and Halperin were touring and lecturing on the subject of the circumstances surrounding Kurt's death. The publication of their book, Who Killed Kurt Cobain? was imminent. Rossi mentioned on p.185 that Courtney had been using Rohypnol just hours before she arrived in Rome on March 3rd. Brite not only doesn't mention this, but, as we will see, she elaborated on Kurt's use of various drugs not mentioned in Rossi's book. In short, certain inconvenient bits of information which made it into Rossi's book do not make it into Brite's. Certain convenient bits of "information" which made it into Brite's book were not mentioned in Rossi's. You will see what I mean as this progresses. Brite's book is an attempt to cleanse Courtney's stories still further. Both the Rossi and Brite books show the real Courtney, but only when they are read with the knowledge that Courtney manipulated the contents. Both of these books are proof that the circumstances of Kurt's death warrant considerable effort, through manipulation, for a cover up. For example, and this is probably the most important, in Rossi's book (published 1996,) it is said that the nanny who accompanied Courtney to Rome was a male nanny. In Brite's book, (published 1997,) this nanny has now become Jackie. In Cobain by the editors of Rolling Stone, p.90, (published 1994,) it is said that the nanny was Cali, who is of course, Michael DeWitt. ...but she was obsessed with media and how she's percieved. What I didn't realise was that 95% of it was her directly calling editors. She's got a full media network going on....I thought I was around someone who was a victim and somebody who could use a friend, and what I was around was a very good manipulator and a careerist, someone not to be underestimated. (Trent Reznor talking about Courtney Love, source, Nine Inch Nails by Martin Huxley.) Thanks Trent. Over the years the facts are being overwhelmed by incorrect information. I have noticed that information which appeared at the time has since become lost. There are precious few examples of Kurt's references to events, we must not let them become lost. They are Kurt's defence. Justice for Kurt, copy and distribute the real information, don't allow mainstream media to get away with their cover-up. Frances Barnett.
