Henry Ford was the first child of William and Mary Ford's six children. Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863. Ford grew up on his prosperous family farm. At an early age, Ford showed a dislike for farmwork and an interest in mechanics. At 16, Ford left the prosperous farm to work in the city of Detroit to work as an apprentice machinist. Ford remained an apprentice until 19 and then returned back to the family farm. Over the next several years Ford split his work time into operation and repairing steam engines. Then at 25, Ford married Clara Bryant and supported his new family by running a small sawmill. Then in 1891, Ford then became an engineer with the Edison Illuminating Company in Detroit. Later Ford produced his Quadricyle and later founded The Ford Motor Company in 1903.
