The AN/ARC-5 & SCR-274N Page

This page will hopefully fill the void on the web on Amateur Conversion (or attempts thereof) of ARC-5 & SCR-274N hardware.

Until then, Its my picture page!

This is what I got at the CMRA Pomona swapmeet on 1/20/01. The reciever is a BC-455-B (6-9 Mhz) and the little runt next to it is a BC-357-P beacon receiver, or the remains thereof.

Ahh yes, the leaking green funky stuff. AHH! I'm melting! Since this is going to be my main 40M receiver, (if I wasn't so distracted from practicing my code!!!) I plan to pull the bathtubs and install nice tiny caps.

Latest Aquisition! (2/13/01) I actually got a reasonable deal on eBay!

The tag says, and was sold to me under the impression that it is a CBY 52209, 4 to 5.3 Mhz, but it appears to be modified to do 3-4 Mhz! Even has a 3500 kc xtal in it. Perhaps I lucked out! Need to get that license upgrade, then I'll let myself work on it!

2/24/01: Scored some more radios. First is a yet-unidentified supposed broadcast band receiver. This one is a bit odd, it has glass tubes and the antenna post is in the wrong place.

As you can see, a 12a6 is missing, and someone slapped on an outboard 12au7.

OK, this BC455B doesn't count as a whole radio, more like 1/4! Who could say no for $2?

Obviously this one has had a rather hard life! But look, the bottom is intact, this one may run again someday!

Here's what it looks like trying to get the (first and complete) BC-455 to work. It's waiting for a 12k8 tube.

Much work to do here... Must.. practice.. code!!!
