Clarifier Slide + Tech Bulletin - Galaxy DX959, DX949 & DX2547 - EPT069610Z

Have you noticed, that after you unlocked the clarifier on the Galaxy DX959 & DX949 (and possibly the DX2547 as well), that it still does not slide quite as much as needed (+/- 800Hz)? Well I have the cure!!!!

Changing resistor R153 from a 2.7K ohm to a 12K ohm increases the range to about +/- 1100Hz and now the the clarifier range from center to fully clockwise is almost the same as from center to fully counter clockwise.

After changing R153 you must do the complete PLL/VCO alignment, but keep reading.

This is a Tech Bulletin Direct from Galaxy: Follow the wires coming from the clarifier and trace them to the board. If the black & white wires cross anywhere from one point to the other, you need to switch the wires back to normal. It does not matter which end you do it at and it does not matter what way you do it. Only thing that matters is that the wires do not cross at all from one point to the other.

The easiest way to do this is to use a jewelers screwdriver, press the set tab on the connectors in the molex to remove the two wires. Now re-insert them into the molex the correct way. Now you should have at the least 6kc slide one way and 3kc the other.

This is what the clarifier wiring should look like after you change it

If you have the Viagra A or B kit installed, do not switch the clarifier wires. When Galaxy built the viagra kits, they did not have them setup to align the clarifier in all bands, so this doesnt work to well with the clarifier wired correctly. Hopefully it will be a concern Galaxy will correct in the future.

Now you need to do the complete PLL/VCO Alignment
