I have had a number of radios come in that has had the weather alert continuously popping the receiver when the radio is on. Also when the radio is off, I have heard complaints that they could hear an abrupt sound come from the radio which sounded like the voice from NOAA Weather Reports. Most complaints have been mainly from when the radio is off and the owner is sleeping. It would wake the driver up with a loud noise which lasted only a split second. Aggravating enough to the owner to actually give the radio to me to see what I could do. Here is what I found to be the fix!
1. Remove the Green Wire from the ON/OFF Switch that runs to a spot on the main board labeled W705. This disables the weather alert while radio is off. You can just remove the green wire from the ON/OFF switch and tape it inside if you want.
2. Remove 1uf Capacitor at spot labeled W702, it has a blue wire soldered to other end and runs to an unmarked spot on main board next to C40 near the Audio Chip. You can remove entirely or just lift the wire at C40 and tape it inside.
After you do the 2 above things (or one of your choice depending on what problem you are having), you can reassemble the radio and put it back to work for you. I have had this radio on my bench after both mods, both with radio on and off for 3 hours and have not had any problem with popping or abrupt weather alerts... You can also still enjoy listening to the weather channels as you normally would!
