SKYHOOK'S PC 1132
NEWSLETTER   JUNE 25, 2003

Greetings to all shipmates, families and friends:

The main news of the day is; my trusty IBM Computer crashed about three weeks ago, taking with it the scanner,
which has been the heart of the Newsletter.   All the king's horses and all the king's men haven't been able to put old
IBM back together again----so far.   No cartoons and no pics.   So we will just do a DELL e-mail and hope for better days.

On the occasion of Bob Hope's recent 100th birthday bash, I remembered an incident that happened to PC 1132 in the
spring of 1944.    We were running up and down the coast of New Guinea; Madang, Aitape, Finschhafen.    We heard
that Bob Hope's troup was coming for a visit.   I don't know if the entire crew got to go ashore but I was one of the lucky
ones.   In addition to Bob, there was Frances Langford, actress; Jerry Calogna (?), comedian; Lanny Ross, singer; and
other celebrities of the time.   It was a standard Hope event worth remembering.   Our old buddy, Tony Greco, managed
to get himself photographed with Bob Hope.   That was Tony.   Always the opportunist.   I have three photos of the event
which I will include in a future newsletter when old IBM gets going again.

In a recent e-mail exchange on Memorial Day, Skipper Quint sent his regards and well wishes to the crew who sailed
with him on the 1132.   He also remembered the crew of the USS Barton, some of which didn't make it home.
That ship lies deep in Iron Bottom Sound along with many of its crew.   Skipper
relates that he still plays golf two or three times a week.   My golf has been placed on permanent hold because of
arthritis.   I get my golf vicariously on weekends watching Tiger and the others play.

The correct e-mail address for Gene Ament is [email protected]
Wayne Price keeps us entertained with jokes and articles.   He and Tim Davis got
into a dissertation over Red Neck birth control.  Tim has reported that Grady and Myrtice Weathers are holding their
own---with the help of some friends.   Frank Tiffenbach reports that his bowling team won a trophy and New Jersey is
wet, wet, wet.   It was dry, dry, dry last year.  We still haven't heard from the Shipleys.  Last count, they were thinking
about moving.   Maybe they will let us know.   Some of the others may let us know something too.

In an exchange, Stuart Tidwell, speaking of the recent charter fishing boat disaster on the Oregon coast said "there are
old sea captains and bold sea captains but no old bold sea captains".    We were discussing the treacherous bars on the
Oregon coast which have to be crossed.   His wife developed an infected heel and was hospitalized so their annual trip
to the Oregon coast is delayed.

USA TODAY recently published the cowboys' Ten Commandments.   It was forwarded to us by a cousin   (1) Just one
God  (2) Honor yer Ma &Pa. (3) No telling tales or gossipin'. (4) Git yourself to Sunday meeting.  (5) Put nothin' before God
(6) No foolin' around with another fellow's gal. (7) No killin'.  (8) Watch yer mouth.  (9) Don't take what ain't yers.  (10) Don't
be hankerin' for yer buddy's stuff.
