Does love ever make you go a little crazy?
Oh, yeah! Nothing comes to my mind now but I know that because of love I'd be capable of anything. There's no limit to what I'd do to be loved by a girl.

What would lead you to the alter?
Being in love, firstly. And then beacuse I'd want to have children. I think I'll marry the day I meet a women with whom I feel comfortable and very confident, and if I couldn't bear being away from her. Somebody with whom I could exchange points of view, speak about everything. She could have brown hair, she could be blonde, I don't care. But she has to be funny, passionate, elegant amd independent- that's essential. If on top of that she can cook, that's like nirvana because I'm a lousy cook!

And what about sex? Is that important?
Of course, definitely. That goes with passion.

Are you seeing anyone right now?
I'm single. And I love that- it gives me plenty of time to look at girls!

What do you think of girls who takes the first step, rather than waiting for the boy to do the asking?
Not a problem as long as they don't throw themselves at me. You can play the flirting game a while and that avoids being rejected because then both of you are sure to be interested.

Those glances and all the flirting- you must came across a lot of that with your fans. How do you deal with it all?
Well, because of Pop Idol, I know that I owe the fans everything. The most difficult thing has been to keep my privacy.

So does that mean you wouldn't ever have a fling with one of your fans?
You know, if this is the women of my life, of course I would! But I would never take advantage of the situation, though that would be too easy. But whether the girl is famous or not doesn't change anything if I fall in love with her.

Youve always seemed very close to your fans, What sort of relationship do you have with them?
I will be eternally grateful to them for having supported me during the show. Thanks to them, I'm here today. On the other hand, sometimes I get asked a lot of things which are very indiscreet. But I can't complain. The press launched 'Gareth Day' last year and I have to say that hearing the girls shout when I come on the set isn't bad!

You've been blessed with an amazing voice. With a gift like that, did you really need to take part in Pop Idol?
That gave me the opportunity to become a pop star. I wanted to take part in the competition. I was about eight years old when I started to sing. Then I learned to play guitar and drums. When I did the first auditions for Pop Idol, I went in and it was the most intense experience I've ever lived. To sing live every week in front of millions of viewers- wow! And I got to meet other candidates, like Will Young and Darius- the three of us became close friends.

What did you learn from the programme, musc-wise?
Well, we had hours of singing lessons which really helped. The show also gave me the opportunity to work hard and improve myself.

You put 16 tracks on your album, which is quite a lot...
Too much? I don't think so. There were so many songs, we had real problems making a choice. So we took 16. I think they all relate to me. As the title says, What My Heart Wants To Say. I put in everything I wanted to say because a song is the best way of expressing feelings.
