Habinoza was known worldly for his prowess in battle, his strength, and his leadership. He was known to those close to him as a quiet, patient, yet dominating man.
Rosa-Amor was known for her faithfulness and sensability. It was said that it would be impossible to refuse a request by Rosa-Amor. Some say it was because she never asked anyone to do anything she never did, or would expect Habinoza to do.
To call Shirotasama a witch in the way that we think of "witch," would be a mistake. Shirotasama would better be thought of as a divine man. If you understand the name given to him (sama), you would understand just how divine he was considered. No one knew his age. And no one knew where he was from. Most believed he had traveled from a different place and was not of this world, which leads to the question of his formidable powers. It was believed that Shirotasama could level mountains and raise them again with a breath. He was known for his vast knowledge of the past, and his ability to see into the future. It was believed he talked to spirits and to others like himself. Although no one ever saw this actually take place.
Keybonesabi was born to Habinoza "The Spear Man," and Rosa-Amor under the first new moon of the year of the monkey. Named Keybonesabi at birth by the old witch, who had died the evening after naming him. And whenever Shirotasama proclaimed a name, it meant something. No one ever thought of the possibility of Shirotasama dying , but as he said, "All things have an end." But what was even more significant of the death of Shirotasama, was what he had said, and why he named the new-born to Habinoza and Roza-Amor. Shirotasama was the only known person who could translate what Keybonesabi's name meant, for it was of the old language, unknown and forgotten by the world.
Noon the day of Shirotasama's death, Shirotasama had a private meeting with Habinoza. It was not disclosed what was said in the meeting. Except, that Habinoza prepare his kingdom for an attack one phase after the next new moon. It was apparent even Habinoza did not know why he would need to prepare for an attack. His kingdom had no enemies at the time. But even so he ordered all mature young men to begin training and women to take the place of the men on the fields. Even so the women still were expected to be able to fight along side the men when the battle came, except for women and men more suited to perform other duties. Such as preparing the kingdom for mass casualties, building collapseable bridges, and producing logistical items for war, such as tempered swords and masses of lances and pikes.
In the war room of Habinoza, we find Habinoza, Shirotasama, and Gra'Hatkchklet (a very large built man, the general of Habinoza).
"Shirotasama, do you see anything that I am missing in preparing for this 'attack'?"
"Yes." Shirotasama replied with a voice of ages, "Your son."
"You must mean Rosa. Yes I reallize..."
"No, your wife is not concerned with this."
"What do you mean? She is not expected for weeks."
"Are you sure? Habinoza, your wife is to have Keybonesabi tonight."
Gra'Hatkchklet speaks with a voice that rumbles the loose stones of the floor, "Great Shirotasama has named the unborn child."
With a look of shock, "What!? That is of the old tongue. What does it mean?" says Habinoza.
"It is no concern to you right now. You must ensure that he will be safe in the upcoming attack."
"Of course, he is the son of the King! How can I not think of that?"
"No you must hide him."
"Hide him? Hide him where? How? You know very well that we cannot make a move without anyone knowing. What can we do?"
"Yes you are right Habinoza. I will take care of him. But remember this..." Suddenly Shirotasama looks towards the entrance. Quietly and quickly "Sshh. Do not mention anything about your son. You must remember."
The doors open, entering a messenger man. "My lord, you must come quick! The child is coming!"
"Habinoza, stay with me awhile longer. Your child will not come immediately," Stopping Habinoza before leaving the room. "You may leave now," Shirotasama said to the messenger.
"What shall I tell the maiden?"
"Tell her Habinoza is on his way."
After watching the messenger depart, Shirotasama begins talking to Habinoza. "The reason... I thought I told you to LEAVE!" pointing towards the doors and revealing the eavesdropping messenger. "But I suppose you might as well take this message also, come here!" The messenger stumbles toward Shirotasama, and stops abruptly a cubit length from Shirotasama. "I am to depart during the birth of the child. I will be back after the birth of the child. Habinoza, be sure to care for Rosa-Amor, Don't leave her side for an instant during the birth. As for you my friend," to the messenger, "Be sure Habinoza is not obstructed from what I have told him to do. If not, I will personally see to the fact that you are the first one to greet the oncoming attack! Understand?" With a look of horror and surprise, the messenger nods. "Good. Now escort your lord to your lady's chamber."
As soon as the doors shut, Shirotasama begins to take the form of a hawk. And flies out the window.
