“Aadyantha
Prabhu – Manifestations of Godhead who stand for totality (Poornam) –
Ganesha and Entirety (Sampoornam) also meaning that which is endless –
Aanjaneya” – this was the concept chosen for presentation. Based on
selected, well-known episodes from the epics and other stories centering
around these two deities, a Tamil lyrical format for the ballet has been
composed and set to music by P.R. Venkatasubramanian, a disciple of
Needamangalam Krishnamurthi Bhagavathar. The lively lyrics enabled the
dancers to bring forth with devotion, the chosen theme. - The Hindu
Dance
Ballet “Vanavillin 7 Varnangal” based on “Pied Piper of Hamelin” was
presented at the Russian Cultural Centre. The Ballet comprised of all kinds
of music and dance styles symbolising unity and national integration. The
lyrics and music were really a proof of professionalism and were apt to the
situations. The Ballet was written and set to tunes by shri P.R. Venkata
Subramanian. - Evening Madras
The
‘Murugan Talattu’ of Shri P.R. Venkatasubramanian kept the audience
alert and awake.
Commenced
the recital with the Pushpanjali followed by ‘Parvathy Sutane’ in Ragam
Shanmugha Priya. Both the items were crisp and scintillating and were the
compositions of the contemporary composer and keyboard artiste P.R.
Venkatasubramanian.
Moulded
by the expert Guru Smt. Kanchana Janardhanan in the Vazhuvoor Tradition,
these budding talents presented the compositions of their school’s
Aasthaana Vidwan or the permanent scholar and composer Shri P.R.
Venkatasubramanian. All the items were challenging in terms of composition.
The Ragas preceding every piece brought out flamboyant performance from
Subbu’s Keyboard.
Dancers from Bharathanjali presented ‘Tathaastu’. In this the swaram for
Sani had the notes Si and Ni which rightly insisted on the importance of the
character Sani. Lyricist and Music Composer P.R. Venkatasubramanian did
justice to the music and lyrics for ‘Tathaastu’
‘Gananatha
Nee’ in praise of Lord Ganesha, in Ragam Niroshta was heart-throbbing. The
very name Niroshta means that the lips won’t touch and the raga name
Niroshta has chosen swaras which go well with its very name. Composer P R
Venkatasubramanian had set the lyrics in such a way that it obeyed the rule
of Niroshta.
An
additional highlight was that the day’s agenda included many of the
compositions of the contemporary lyricist and keyboard Artiste PR Venkata
Subramanian, a disciple of Needamangalam Krishnamurthy Bhagawathar. The
items were worthy additions to the Bharathanatyam repertoire with the lyrics
giving enough room for the sancharis. - The New Indian Express
The
Madras Telugu Academy organised the Ugadi Purashkar 97
One of the best performances for the day was the Keyboard recital by
Sri.P.R. venkatasubramanian where the keyboard being a western instrument
was handled brilliantly by the artiste. He played the carnatic ragas like
Kalyani, Kapi and Sindhubhairavi, a brilliant integration of the east and
west (Western instrument and South Indian music) symbolising universal
integration. The highlight of the programme was that the artiste met the
challenges by not using any of the facilities available on the Keyboard. The
artiste was previously alloted 10 minutes but due to time constrain it was
reduced to 6 minutes. The artiste took up the challenge with a confident
smile and won the applause of one and all. This act of his proved his
expertise and his courage that took him to the greatest heights.
