I finally updated my movie section... Check out my all time fave flicks... Of course, some are still missing, gimme some time! :-)
While you were sleeping, 1995
Sandra Bullock, Bill Pullman

Lucy, a young Chicago transit worker, escapes her lonely existence when she rescues a handsome commuter she has admired from afar, Peter, from the path of a speeding subway train. While Peter languishes in a coma, his concerned family mistakes Lucy for his fiancee and she goes along with the decpetion, enjoying a warm family relationship missing in her own life. Matters become increasingly complicated when Peter regains consciousness and becomes convinced that Lucy is his fiancee; in the meantime she's fallen in love with his brother.
That's one of the sweetest movie you'll ever see. And I don't say it because it has Bill Pullman (although it's an advantage)... The story is just lovely and so funny it'll make ye giggle constantly!
It's also sort of xmasish, so if you lack the mood during that season, this movie will give it to you!
Cold Mountain, 2003
Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Renee Zellweger

Inman, a Civil War Confederate soldier, is seriously wounded in battle before heading home to North Carolina to his pre-war beloved, Ada. In his absence, Ada - with the help of a young drifter named Ruby - is desperately trying to hold onto the farm of her deceased missionary father. Inman's long journey home takes him through the crumbling confederacy as he meets people of all walks of life who want to both aid and hinder his mission.
I am neither very romantic nor emotional - usually - but this movie made me believe that it's possible to risk your life for the memory of a single kiss years ago...
The third movie in a row that features one of the hottest men on this planet (and quite possibly even in a galaxy far far away!) What can I say? Great music, well-known, but still good story, romance.. Nicole Kidman (*I am unworthy I am unworthy*)

37 thumbs up. For good. Thank you Baz!
Moulin Rouge, 2001
Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor

Christian, a young Bohemian poet living in 1899 Paris, defies his father by joining the colourfully diverse clique inhabiting the dark, fantastical underworld of Paris' now legendary Moulin Rouge. In this seedy but glamerous haven of sex, drugs und newly-discovered electricity, the poet-innocent finds himself plunged into a passionate but ultimately tragic love affair with Satine, the club's highest paid star and the city's most famous courtesan. Their romance is played out out against the infamous club - a meeting place of high and low where slumming aristocrats and the fashionably rich mingle with workers, artists, bohemians, actresses and courtesans.
Click, 2006
Adam Sandler, Kate Beckinsale

A workaholic architect, who has been overlooking his family in favor of his career, comes across a universal remote that allows him to perform TiVo-like functions on his life , such as pausing events of fast-forwarding over them. When the remote begins creating its own memory and choosing what to fast-forward over, the man sees how much his personal life has passed him by and realizes the importance of spending more time with his family.
This movie really rocks.. Even though I don't like Adam Sandler, the role of the dude is made for him...
This movie made me really sad at one point, but for various reasons I tried to keep my tears inside, lol.
Anyways. You'll love it! I promise. :-)
Gloomy Sunday, 2003
Joachim Krol, Ben Becker

As the turmoil of WWII engulfs Hungary, a Budapets eatery, Restaurant Szabo, hosts its own conflicts. Its restaurant owner, Laszlo, hires the pianist Andras and both men love Ilona, which is further complicated when their regular customer Hans, an SS colonel, begins to persue Ilona's affections.
This movie desciption I found on yahoo is rather incomplete, since it lacks the most important part: the song Andras composes for Ilona. The song of the gloomy Sunday really existed and, as shown in the movie, a great number of people committed suicide while listening to it.
What I also like about this movie is that the SS colonel isn't just bad because he's a Nazi (which would certainly be enough in many other movies), but he's an evil guy even without his uniform. Great acting too. Movies don't have to be made in America to be good. Quite the opposite. Good job! Good song.. err.... don't get any ideas!
Spaceballs, 1987
Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis, John Candy

In this spoof of Star Wars and other sci-fi flicks from the 1970's and 80's, Space-bum-for-hire Lone Star and his half dog/half man side kick Barf must save a spoiled Druish princess from the evil Lord Dark Helmet in time to pay off Pizza the Hut....
One of the best comedies ever...

Also... Bill Pullman! YAY!
Perfume: The story of a murderer, 2006
Dustin Hoffman

Based on the bestselling novel by Patrick Sskind "Perfume" is a story of obsession and murder set in 18th century France. Jean-Baptiste Grenouille has a uniquel talent for discerning the scents and smells that swirl around him, which he uses to create the worlds finest perfumes. Strangely lacking any scent of his own, he becomes obsessed with capturing the irresistable but elusive aroma of young womanhood. As Grenouille's obsessions becomes deadly, twelve young girls are found murdered. Panice breaks out as people rush to protect their daughters, while an unrepentant and unrelenting Grenouille still lacks the final ingredient to complete his quest...
I read the book before I saw the movie, as most people have, and even though I liked reading it, I thought it could be hard to turn it into a good flick. But it happened. I admit that I like the movie much better than the book now...
It's disturbing.. but Grenouille doesn't even seem evil...
Sister Act 2, Back in the habit, 1993
Whoopie Goldberg, Lauryn Hill

Deloris, now a headliner in Las Vegas, is persuaded by the good sisters to return to her inner city alma mater, St. Francis high, to go undercover as the new music teacher.
Sister Act, 1992
Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Smith

A mobster's girlfriend cum trashy lounge singer is sent to a convent under the Witness Protection Program and leads the choir there to national fame.
Hahaha... I could watch these all the time, they still crack me up. Part 2 is not AS funny as part one, but has some other positive aspects: young Lauryn Hill, Thomas Gottschalk cooking sausages! LMAO... Well, you'll have to watch them to understand. Or move to Germany to see who Thomas Gottschalk is.Or both!
About a boy, 2002
Hugh Grant, Rachel Weisz

Will is a rich, childless, irresponsible Londonder who, in search of available women, invents an imaginary son and starts attending single parents meetings. As a result of his liaisons, he meets Marcus, a 12-year-old with problems at school and a depressed mother at home. Gradually Will and Marcus become friends, as Will teaches the boy to be a cool kid, Marcus helps Will finally grow up, fall in love and possibly even commit to a real adult relationship with a lovely single mother.
This is a really funny and ironic movie.. For some reason it also makes you think, lol. (Or maybe I am just a really deep person?) ;-) Nothing beats the dying duck and the mom lying half dead on the couch, lol. Ah, I am not so deep after all...
Mannequin, 1987
Andrew McCarthy, Kim Cattrall, Estelle Getty

A young artist sees one of his mannequins in a department store and goes to work there to be close to her. She magically comes to life when he is around, and so begin the hilarious escapades.
I can't say how many million times I have seen this movie... My sister and I watched it several times a week for years, the video tape was absolutely useless after that time, lol.
I love it, partly because it's such a big childhood memory, partly because of its funky 80's music.
I also like the fact that 80's movies were funny and awesome without naked skin and sex scenes. What a poor world nowadays!
