TAXI SERVICE

It’s hard for folks to enjoy a “night out” in the Sackville area:

Maybe you want to see the band playing at Terris Bar,

or try to win a big cash prize in Karaoke Idol at Coach’s Pub;

or join in the Dart League at Calais Legion;

Monte’s isn’t that far away if you are drving;

and Oakmount Station is so close,

that it is almost part of Sackville.

How will you get there?

Will there be drinking involved?

How will you get home?

Here’s what you may have already experienced in Sackville:

You call for a Taxi, anticipating a short wait, and a safe trip home:

and you wait, and wait, and wait, and you may give up after an hour.

Maybe you aren’t over the legal limit, but you can’t be sure,

and you know you shouldn’t drive, but you have been waiting for an hour,

and your car is right there in the parking lot…..

I remember taking a Taxi regularly to Terris. The meter indicated less than $7 for the cab ride there,

but I might as well round up to $10 and hope that the taxi driver remembers my tip at closing time.

Now it is 1AM, and soon the bar will be closing.
You call ahead so you are not standing out in the cold waiting for a Taxi…

And then, it is 2AM, and you are locked outside, still waiting for that Taxi.

How many Taxi licenses do we have in Sackville? 10? 100? 200?

And how many are driving on a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night? 2, 3, 4?

There are more drinking establishments in Sackville, than there are taxis on the road.

How is everyone getting home? Obviously, they are not taking Taxis ….

I would hope that Taxi drivers, who make a living by driving,
would be concerned about the potential to lose customers!

But the numbers are still the same, way less than the demand.

What are the alternatives? Drive anyway? NOT RECOMMENDED!

Besides the potential for getting caught by the RCMP,

what about your safety, and that of others?

Perhaps you don’t own a vehicle. You could take Metro Transit.

You could call a *SOBER* friend.

(I’d be happy to donate $10 to a friend for gas money)

Casino Taxi in Halifax would likely have a TAXI available, but only in Halifax.

In Sackville, we have to use a local TAXI, of which we have difficulty getting.

If you agree that a real TAXI SERVICE is necessary,

and don’t want to see impaired drivers on the road,
take a stand, and force better service for us all.
