KEY 103 LEICESTER
A SITE LOOKING BACK AT THE BEST EVER RADIO STATION IN LEICESTER
THE STORY BEHIND KEY 103 LEICESTER
Key 103 Leicester began broadcasting live on the Internet on Wednesday 15th May 2002. It was listened to by many listeners, mainly by people who were in Year 11 of New College Leicester at that time.

The station would broadcast weeknights from 7pm until around 10.30 - 11pm. It would play the best music around and would also feature fun games, messages from listeners and all the usual stuff. The show was presented by David Bott and Gareth Hussey.

Within a week of going on air for the first time, the station began to recieve sponsorship money from certain advertisers. This was great for us but meant that station would play commercials every 30 minutes or so. The usual adverts for companies like Coldseal Windows, O2 Stores, Vodafone Stores and even Newquay Zoo! Local companies such as Archie Moss in Loughborough also got their ads in.

The station expanded rapdily and by the time July came about, the station was on air 24 hours a day. The schedule would be made up of local presenters, Danny Purtell, David Bott and Gareth Hussey. After that, it would be the boys and girls from Key 103 Manchester doing the presenting.

The station covered the GCSEs for Year 11 of New College that year. It also followed World Cup 2002 and Big Brother 3. Sadly, due to funding and other projects, the station finally came to an end in August 2002. It was fun while it lasted.

FACTS ABOUT KEY 103 LEICESTER
+  Key 103 Leicester got it's name from Manchester based, Key 103. The name was chosen as Key 103 had a ring to it and was unknown by local people. This meant we could steal the logo, jingles and programmes and nobody would know any different!... Sneaky, but who cares!

+  Key 103 Leicester was first launched on Wednesday 15th May 2002 at around 6.45pm. It was listened to by several people on Gareth Hussey's MSN contacts list. The first show was presented by David Bott and Gareth Hussey and was a big success. The UEFA Champions League Final was featured that night as were listeners messages and requests.

+  The Number 1 at the time of Key 103 going on air was 'Just A Little' by Liberty X. This was also the most played song on Key 103 ever!... The first ever song to by aired on Key 103 was 'Without Me' by Eminem... David's favourite song whilst covering Key 103 was 'Reason' by Ian Van Dahl. To listen to any of these, see the downloads section below.

+  Key 103 Leicester's local presenters were all 16 year olds at the time. They were David Bott, Danny Purtell and Gareth Hussey. Key 103 advertised for other people to have the chance to present but nobody came forward.

+  Key 103 was also spread about. In Sheffield, Key 103 Leicester's Sheffield Spy, Osh Vaughn did the dirty work on his local radio station, Hallam FM. He rang up twice within a matter of days on the Phoneboy show to advertise us and spread the word. To hear these phone calls, see the downloads section below.
