A rule question came up during the "
Mike May Special" that requires a response. The question was: can you legally throw all 4 washers at once? After reviewing the
official rules, I believe that the answer is up for interpretation. The rule states: "
the first thrower will throw all 4 of their washers in a row." One could claim that the words 'in a row' means that they must be thrown 1 at a time. OR one could claim that you could throw them all at the same time as long as they are lined up "in a row".
In the spirit of the game, I would want to maintain the ability to throw all the washers at once when you are 'throwing them away' after already reaching 11. It would be sad and unfair if someone lost a game because they tossed their 'castaway' washers all at once instead of 1 at a time. To keep this ability we must also leave the door open to throwing all 4 washers at once at the box. I am curious about the accuracy and realistic consistency of the strategy.
At this time, I feel we should leave the rules as they are stated and only approach changes if the strategy of 4 at once proves to be negatively altering the spirit of the game.
