London 2012
I'd like to formally announce the Washoo Olympic movement entitled "London 2012: Washoos for the World". Since we will all be dead before the summer olympics make it to Canada, England seems to be a logical second choice for introducing Washoos to the world.
A sport must satisfy certain criteria to become an olympic sport:
To be an olympic sport, there must be an international governing body that develops and maintains the standards of the sport. Done: WANA (Washoo Association of North America).
" To be added to the Summer Olympics, a sport or discipline must be widely practised by men in at least 75 countries on four continents and by women in at least 40 countries on three continents."
I personally have evidence for Washoos in 2 countries and 1 continent. We are well on our way...but still have some work to do. I think our fastest appearance at the olympics will be through the 'demonstration sport' porthole.
"The original idea behind demonstration sports was that host countries could present unique sports to a body of international spectators."
Yes, that says 'unique'. Washoos is certainly unique. It appears that the acceptance criteria for demonstration sports is less stringent. For instance here are some past demo sports:
Gliding - 1936
Korfball - 1920, 1928
Roller Hockey - 1992
Ski Jöring (Skiing behind a horse) - 1928 (winter)
Water Skiing - 1972
What the hell is 'Korfball'?? Washoos would certainly fit in with that list. Now we just need to convince host nation, England. I'm off to talk to the Queen at my nexy earliest convenience.
