I ran into a cool but slightly geeky site yesterday called
PPX. It's done by
Popular Science Magazine. It is a mock stock market where the stocks are actually propositions of whether certain tech and science predictions will come true. For example, the newest IPO is whether a high-quality iPhone knock-off will go on sale in China by January 1, 2008. The stock starts at $50. If it comes true it will pay out at $100. If it does not happen, each share is a useless $0. Keep in mind it's fake moola. When you start an account you get $250,000 to play with.
One prop asks if a computer will be able to beat a professional poker player within the year. It's currently selling at $65.50. I'm going to send the administrators a suggested new IPO. "Will Washoos have celebrity endorsement by January 1, 2010" And no, Frumpy does not count as a celebrity. I'd see the probability of this to be around 70%. Especially with the Washoo knock-off, 'washer toss' already out there commercially available.
