Colorado State Championship
The 2003 Colorado State/30th Anniversary of Air Hockey Championship was a fantastic event held in the beautiful city of Denver, Colorado. The tournament was a tribute to the fantastic sport of Air Hockey that was created in 1973. The tournament was held on original Brunswick tables, which were in excellent condition for their age. On Friday night players were given the privilege of seeing historic Air Hockey videos, which included the 76, 81, and 83 nationals (to name a few), all held on the exact same Brunswick tables that the players would be playing on the following day and Sunday.
#1 ranked player in Michigan, Jason Rich and #2 ranked player, Kevin Rich represented the MAHA in Colorado. The Tournament consisted of 25 players. To begin the tournament Jason was seeded 21 and Kevin was seeded 23.
Both Kevin and Jason were sent to the spinoff tournament to determine the final results of 17-24th place as Kevin lost to the great Marc Robbins (#19 World Ranked, #6 in Colorado) and to Nick Geoffroy (#16 World Ranked, #5 in Colorado). Jason lost to Lazaro Garcia (#24 World Ranked, #25 in Texas) and to Scott Petersen (#22 World Ranked, #8 in California).
In The 17-24 Spinoff Tournament Kevin lost 4-2 to Chris Green (#48 World Ranked, #26 in Texas) and lost 4-3 to Steve Carpenter (unranked in world, #10 in Colorado). In the 23rd/24th place game Kevin defeated Joann Florez (#57 World Ranked) by a score of 4-3 to take 23rd place. Jason won his first match in the spinoff against Jason Miller 4-0 (unranked in world, #11 in Colorado), lost to David Lundberg (unranked in world, #8 in Colorado) 4-2 to go to the losers bracket side. There Jason beat Steve Carpenter (unraked in world, #10 in Colorado) 4-2, and finished in 20th place after losing to Chris Wilcox (unraked in world, #9 in Colorado) 4-1.
