Webliography #2 10-14

This website is a good choice for understanding more about the Black Death. This website has a good menu that splits the information up well. It has a title with the origin, which tells you that it developed in the Gobi Dessert in the late 1320s. The website then explains how it approaches the different areas of the world and were it was quite severe. One place it mentions is Cairo, which had deaths in the thousands. The website then goes on and talks about how the disease was carried which was mainly through rats, however other rodents could and did carry the flea. The website then begins to address the way this affected the population. This obviously lowered the population. In Europe the estimation of lives lost over the Black Death was about one third of the population. Now this website ties in with what we are studying in a few ways. One is that the Black Death happened during the middle ages and caused a major population decline. This decline caused a crash in the economy and a raise in the price of goods. The website did a good job in reviewing the Black Death and would be a good website to look at if you wanted to know more about it.

This website has an overview of life in the middle ages. It talks about the religion that was practiced, the feudal life, what the conditions of the homes were like and much more. The website explains that the homes in the middle ages were often very small, cold and damp. The peasant families often spent time in the same room simply because the rooms were quite small and there were usually only a couple of rooms. The website talks about what the people wore as well. The website says that people usually wore wool and had a type of undergarment underneath that usually made of linen. It also mentions that the better the material or jacket length the wealthier you are. This website ties in well with what we are studying simply because it involves the middle ages. We are studying the middle ages and this website talks about some of the things already covered in class and also talks about things we haven’t covered, some of the things may not be as important but they are interesting.

This particular web site I feel is great for finding out information on a knight during the middle ages. The websites home page has a great little introduction, and on the left side of the home page there is a menu.  This menu has a list with the different things like weapons, chivalry, armor and more, which relate to the knight in some way. If you choose to click on one of these then you will find a page with a description explaining that topic. For example under the armor section of the web page it tells you how the knights armor gradually progressed stating with the invention of chainmail armor and then telling how later developments created what we all know of as the knight in shining armor this type of armor was more solid and had better protection and making a full body suit. This type of armor made the shield unneeded and somewhat useless. The website then explains that the full suit armor soon became unneeded and impractical due to the use of gun powdered weapons around the 15th century. Now this website also gives great detail on other aspects of their lives as well like their weapons, and even heraldry which are symbols relating to the family. The one thing I don’t like about this page is the way it fades in and out of the pages; this is because it takes longer to go from page to page.
