The web site was about the Peloponnesian war. This topic ties in well with what we are studying since the Peloponnesian war had a pretty big impact on Athens. I felt it was a web site with important information that doesn’t go into great depth to wear it will confuse you. However it did give a lot of important facts and details on the war. It explains the two plans for the war one being the Spartans and one being the Athenians. I t explains that the Athenians were wanting to fight the war at sea were they were strong and that the Spartans wanted to burn the Athenians food supply and cut off their trade routes and to keep the fighting on land. The site also tells that the Athenian warriors and population was greatly decreased when the plague hit killing their great leader Pericles as well. After ten years of war both sides Sparta and Athens became worn down and made a peace treaty for fifty years called the Peace of Nicias. Later it explains the disastrous expedition to take over Sicily, which ultimately ended the power Athens had meaning they were soon taken over by the Spartans.

I chose this website as a good choice to explain the
Athenian democracy for a few reasons. The website seams to have good
information explaining in detail on how the democratic government was set up
and when it was in its greatest stage of use. It is also very nice since it
splits the information into sections on various pages, this is nice since your
not overwhelmed with an extremely large document. This web site also explains
how there government was run and that it was a people’s government as they had
a large role in the say of decisions. This web site is also nice since it
explains the three pillars of democracy, which were, assembly of Demos, the
council of 500 and the peoples court. The website also after explaining how the
democracy was run and worked, gives the assembly of the democracy. This is also
a credible website since it was created by Harvard University’s
Center for Hellenic Studies. This website would be good for anyone wanting to
understand the athenian democracy better, or just get refreshed with its basic
concepts.

The web page I chose to explain
Pericles was this one the main reason this web page stood out to me is that it
seemed to focus more on his life leading up to becoming a great leader for
athens. It talks abpout how his family was well distinguished in the community
and that his dad was a rising general and politician. This site also mentions
that Pericles had a dry' ironic'
sense of humor. This website is quite in depth, that involves more than when he
became a successful leader developing a government. This site is more than
acceptable as a reliable source since Professor Gerhard Rempel, Western New
England College, wrote it. This fits in with what we are studying since we are
learning about the Greeks and Romans. Pericles fits in with this since he had a
major impact on the government used in that era and the present.
