World War I prison camps were usually very unpleasant. These camps offered very little food and shelter. Often there was little shelter and an insufficient supply of goods for the prisoners of war to be properly nourished. However this is not odd since the men fighting on the front were usually supplied with a very small amount of food that was somewhat insufficient. The grounds were full of dirt and tiny maggots, with dead bodies on the ground and in some cases fecies. These prisoners of war in some ways would view the camps as a treat seeing that they would not be on the front for a good amount of time if ever again. Even with the horrible conditions life was still possible in the end. The
