Character Analysis
In our group we chose to
reenact the killing of Caesar. We chose this scene because it is an important
change in the script, and drastically alters the future of the play if Caesar
was not killed. We also chose this play because there were multiple characters
in the play, which allowed us to give a part to everyone in our group. In this
scene Shakespeare reveals a few things about the character I reenacted, which
was Antony. The main thing you realize is that Antony appears to be Caesars
main friend as far as loyalty goes. Shakespeare is showing the audience how
loyal and faithful Antony has been and still is. This is easily shown by
Anony’s persistence in wanting to speak at Caesar’s funeral and for him wanting
to carry the body. You can also tell from the pure emotion given out by Antony’
s speech that he is distraught with the fact that the conspirators and Brutus
have indeed cut a great man of Rome down with such little care. Antony makes
reference to Caesar’s blood and how it is the noblest blood of the entire
world. That line in the play shows that Antony is the only true noble man there
as he says he wishes that Caesar could live for a thousand years. Now even though on the outside and in
Antony’s words you feel he is very noble, but there has to be an ulterior
motive to this. Antony obviously wants something else that he doesn’t have and
this is to be powerful. There isn’t much of a better way to gain the support of
the Roman’s than by showing your grievances to them with the death of one of
the most powerful men of Rome. Some new insight that I personally have on
Antony that he is like any human being in the fact that when the opportunity
arises to have power he takes it. Few people would not take the opportunity and
Antony is just showing his natural instinct by wanting more than he already
has. These are the characteristics of the character Antony in the play Julius
Caesar
