1.  What were the underlying causes of WWI?

The causes of the war were simply the fact that one thing led to another. Mainly from the dates of July through August of 1914 is were events took place that were part of the cause of the war. Some of the events in the one thing led to another theory was Austria-Hungary’s treaty with Germany they felt that the Russians mobilizing was an act of war so they declared war on Russia on 1 of August. This event caused France to come into war on Germany since they were in a treaty with Russia this also caused them to be in battle with Austria-Hungary. These all are underlying causes due to them trying to prove that they were a force to be recon with. Also the arms race was cause for the war since it caused the countries to gain control of the best most powerful weapons. Nationalism was part of the problem due to the people’s strong love for their country, which caused countries to go and kill anyone that talked down about their country. Imperialism was also a part of one of the causes since the more developed countries wanted to run other smaller countries to gain more profit and power.

2.  What was the specific cause of WWI?

It is said that the one event that kicked off the start of the war was the killing of the archduke Franz Ferdinand, which took place on June 28 1914. There was an attempt to be kill him once with a faulty bomb, which did not kill him. He neglected this warning and continued to the town hall meeting were he was originally going he was then shot and killed to his death here.

3.  How did the soldiers react as they went off to war? Why?

Soldiers left to the war happy and excited to go fight for their countries. This was due to their pride in their country. They were also excited because they were young boys that were in one place there whole life they were finally going to see the other parts of the world. So they figured they mine as well fight for their country as well. However once the war began or even training in some cases the soldiers realized the long grim road ahead of them would be a traitorous life and future full of blood shed.
