Antenatal classes take place over a 4 week period, each session lasting 2 hours from 7.30pm to 9.30 pm on Monday evenings.

 

Ideally you should attend the sessions at around 28 to 32 weeks of pregnancy , please book early to guarantee a place .

 

Each series will cover the following topics –

 

Week 1

The onset of labour

·         Birth Environment and choices

·         Helping yourself in early Labour

·         Induction

·         What to take to hospital

·         Natural or assisted labour

·         3 stages of labour

 

Week 2

Pain Relief

·         Partners Role

·         Massage

·         Relaxation

·         Tens

·         Gas and Air

·         Pethidine 

·         Epidural  

 

Week 3

After the birth 

·         Examination of the newborn including screening procedures

·         The Hospital Stay and Routine 

·         Feeding ( both breast and bottle feeding will be covered )

 

Week 4

After the birth

·         Baby Care including bathing and nappy changing

·         Role of the Community Midwife and Health Visitor

·         Effects on relationships following the birth

·         “Baby Blues”

·         Baby Equipment

·         Home Safety  

 

The cost of each 4 week course is £120, per couple payable in advance by cheque to ensure your place. This includes light refreshments.

You will also be invited to a “postnatal reunion” where you can “show off” your new baby, discuss your experiences and make new long lasting friendships.

 

I aim to limit the classes to a maximum of 8 couples per session.
