My distractions
by Kevin S. McFadden
My crippling fear
casts shadows in moonlight.
You looked so gorgeous here,
so perfect in this night.

I watched you for hours
and I've seen you before
twisting your ankle while standing,
your silhouette on the door

And you don't know me, really.
And you wouldn't care.
You'll never long to kiss me
when I break my stare.

I invent my distractions
cuz it's cleaner this way
To have at least this one answer
to keep myself sane.

And you don't look my way
and you don't notice.

I invent my distractions
to keep myself trying.
It's so much easier
if I know why I'm crying.
That you don't love me,
and that's why I'm crying.
Yes, I'll believe
that's why I'm crying.
