VISION STATEMENT :
To be a strong influential force in the dissemination of WTO and Trade related information to Governments, Businesses and to the Society Locally and Globally.
OBJECTIVES OF THE MALAYSIA NET :
1) Dissemination of Multilateral Trade Issues to all Chambers of Commerce in the Country.
2) Conduct Open exchange on Multilateral Trade Issues between network members.
3) Open dialogues between network members, Government and Businesses on Globalization and the upcoming challenges in the implementation of WTO rules.
4) Prepare for the Ministerial Meetings in DOHA 2001 and all future meetings.
NETWORK COUNTRY PROGRAMS :
Network Achievement and Objectives Statement :
1. Malaysian World Tr@de Network's achievements to date :
a) Successfully organizing the World Tr@de Net's Business Case Writing Workshop in Kuala Lumpur on the 15th -18th May 2000
b) National Television Interviews and Comments on matters affecting Malaysian and World Trade
2. Quantified Goals for our network
Current membership at 8 participants (originally 12 members but 4 has left their agencies and are not participating currently)
The network will increase its membership to 15 by end of 2001
3. Upcoming Events for the network
· 3 Network meetings planned .
· The next meeting is on the 30th June 2001 in which Mr.Kevin Murthy will brief the network members on the meeting proceedings in Geneva.
· A Regional Conference on :
"WTO Implications to the Third World Countries" is currently planned for
the 7-8th November 2001 in Kuala Lumpur . - notices will be sent out by
end of June 2001.
4. Other Objectives
The network is currently trying to expand its reach to other government agencies that will be affected by the WTO issues.
Particular targets are the Bank Negara (central bank of Malaysia) members, officers and possibly a deputy Minister of Local Government Ministry.
