Daniel F. Johnson : Volume 59 Number 2471 Rank 160 Date March 16 1883 County Saint John Place Saint John Newspaper Daily News Woodstock 'Free Press' - death of Mrs. W. downey, Brighton (Carleton Co.) It appears that the family of W. downey, consisting of a wife and four children, live about three miles back from the River St. John. Mr. downey is working in the lumber woods on the Aroostock River. During the heavy storm of last Saturday, Mrs. downey came to Mr. TEDLIE's who lives beside the river to procure some meal for her family. She started for home with the meal. Mr. Tedlie's folk supposed she arrived there all right until Monday afternoon when one of the children came inquiring for the mother. Search was made and the poor woman was found lying across a fence, frozen to death, within a 100 rods of her home. (see original)
